First Job - Paper boy, RS McColl, 1988, Monday to Saturday, five pounds per week. I spent all of the money I made on dumb film posters from Take Two in Irvine. The best one, by far, was Nightmare On Elm Street 2 and even that was ripped when I got it.

First Crush - Therese Bazaar, I think. I lay awake one Thursday after Top Of The Pops thinking about Dollar's performance of I Want To Hold Your Hand and the moon seemed very romantic through the bedroom curtains. It was magical.

First Record Bought - I bought two at the same time, Into The Groove by Madonna and Axel F by Harald Faltymeyer. Neither came in a picture sleeve which upset me but I said nothing. I got both from Boots in Shawlands Arcade on Tuesday 6 August 1985. Later on, I checked the charts on Ceefax and Into The Groove had gone in at 4, which made me feel very proud. This was the same week Pauline Fowler was rushed to hospital in EastEnders, heavily pregnant with wee Martin, and the same summer as the siege of Brookside Close. The b-side of Axel F was called Shoot Out, and you hear it in the scene in Beverly Hills Cop where Eddie Murphy puts the banana in the tail pipe of the stake-out cops' car.

Previous Bands - None.

When Did You Last Cry - Saturday 11 January 2009, listening to Beautiful Change by The Innocence Mission.

What Books Are You Reading At The Moment - Come Wind, Come Weather by Daphne Du Maurier, Children In Distress by Alec Clegg and Barbara Megson.

What Would Be Your Ideal Holiday - Somewhere sunny and warm, where it's quiet enough to hear chirruping by the cycle paths.

What Do You Wear Around The House - Almost always what I've slept in.

Have You Ever Seen A Ghost - Maybe... one of my earliest memories is looking out from my little bed across Newcroft Drive and seeing a mirror in the window of the house opposite. To my eye, there was a face looking back at me from the mirror. If I'm ever feeling sorry for myself I imagine that might've been a ghost.

What Have You Got In Your Pocket - Lollipop wrapper from Maison Ronnie, single train ticket from Kilwinning to Glasgow, Jim Dunlop 0.60mm plectrum, 17p in sterling.
