This EP was recorded live on a Saturday in John's old flat - we started at ten in the morning and worked through until ten at night.

The Eighteenth Emergency was our first recording to feature Maya Burman-Roy on cello. The title is from a Betsy Byers novel - it wasn't explicit in its descriptions of shadows but the cover was very evocative. It was dusty. The plan was that'd we'd never perform this song again - we broke that rule, though!

There Is No-One Who Can Tell You Where You've Been was re-worked from Profit In Your Poetry, with Basil's original spaghetti-Western introduction back in place.

React Or Die was a work-in-progress - a song we had saved for our second album.

Keep Your Powder Dry was another re-working from Profit In Your Poetry - before we committed to tape we would switch between playing the song in 4/4 and with swing... and this was the swing.
